Your Right to Happiness

You don't know it yet,

but in the next three minutes you are going to learn two things that will first surprise you

The first: you are currently enslaved.

If you have not experienced one momentary negative feeling in the last month then I am wrong. You need not read on. However, if you have, then you are enslaved in some way. Stop a minute−think. You've heard it said that you have been endowed by your Creator with certain unalienable rights, one of which is the pursuit of happiness.

Have you thought much about that lately?

I suspect your thoughts have been more specific, like about money, kids, politics, or vacation.

What is happiness in your experience?

How do you pursue it?

Huge sections of bookstores around the world are loaded with books containing the "secret" to happiness in varying terms.

Google the word and prepare for almost unending pages of links. I decided to top off that mountain of information with a simple tweak:

"You experience true happiness when you stop considering or caring what anyone else says or thinks about you."

The key here is "anyone else". You keep caring what you say about you, but forget about what others might say.

Of course this does not mean you can behave like a cross between a crocodile and a queen bee and then say, "I can do what I want because I don't care what anyone thinks." Often people who make that declaration publicly are lying to themselves. They care so much it hurts.

If you define happiness as a thrilling moment in your life, then you think of it as rare and transitory. Contentment, you may say, is a general state of feeling pretty good about things. Or, you may say happiness is for young people and contentment for old.

If happiness is transitory, it is definitely a feeling—the opposite of sadness and misery. Why is it, then, that we tend to let go of happiness and hang on to misery and other bad feelings? All emotions are in motion. Have we learned this habit?

I think so. Let's break it and pursue happiness. It can be done with just a little practice.

First, you must decide that there really is nothing wrong with you. You were endowed by your creator with unalienable rights, not wrongs. You must give up all negative beliefs about yourself.

Are you willing to do that? You may have been told so many times that some one thing is wrong with you that you believe it without doubt. Whoever told you was wrong! You may have committed some pretty foul deeds in your life that you regret, but those deeds DO NOT DEFINE YOU. They must not imprison you in a cell of your own making!

Second, you must accept on faith, unless you are willing and able to do the research in physics, that your being consists of energy in motion. The flow of that energy determines your well or ill being. This is the good part because now you can consciously affect the flow of that energy.

Combine your willingness to care what you think about yourself, and not care what anyone else thinks, with practice changing the flow of energy, and you will know real happiness even if you call it any other name. You will know true freedom.
